Suspension bridge connecting 2 Tuburan rock formations eyed
A MOUNTAIN peak in Tuburan town in northern Cebu could soon have a 200-meter suspension bridge connecting two rock formations.
This forms a part of a proposed tourism development that the local government wants the national tourism infrastructure agency to support.
The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) is considering the proposal for Atabay Peak in Barangay Marmol, which includes the construction of a suspension bridge and staircases leading to the rock formations.
TIEZA Chief Operating Officer Mark Lapid said the proposed facilities were among the projects presented by the Tuburan local government to develop the area's tourism potential.
Former Tuburan Mayor Aljun Diamante said the planned 200-meter bridge would connect Atabay Peak to another rock formation.
The structures offer panoramic 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains.
Lapid and Diamante visited the proposed development site as part of their activities in the municipality.
They also toured Tuburan 360, an ecotourism destination situated more than 340 meters above sea level in Barangay Kabangkalan.
During the visit, Lapid and Diamante planted bamboo and coffee seedlings at Bamboo Village and Tuburan Coffee Farm in observance of National Environmental Awareness Month.
Before the site visits, Lapid joined Diamante, incumbent Mayor Christian Daniel Diamante, Vice Mayor Danilo Diamante and other municipal officials in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Tuburan Heroes Park project.
The activities in the town is part of Lapid's engagements in Cebu, which also included educational assistance initiatives and a public service caravan in Cebu City.
On Friday, Nov. 6, Lapid held another Handog Saya mini-show at the Samuel McClintock Hall of Cebu Normal University (CNU) in Cebu City.
During the event, Lapid and CNU President Dr. Laurence Garcia announced plans to provide educational assistance to 300 students under the Tulong Dunong program.
Each beneficiary is expected to receive P7,500 through the initiative, which is being implemented in coordination with the Commission on Higher Education and the Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education.(MyTVCebu)
