DOUBLE WEDDING: Twin brothers marry twin sisters in Nigeria
A RARE union just took place in Ibadan, Nigeria, where a pair of twin brothers and a pair of twin sisters celebrated their marriages in a joint wedding ceremony.
Taiwo and Kehinde Oguntoye exchanged vows with twin sisters Taiwo and Kehinde Adediran during the ceremony attended by family, friends, and several other twins from the local community.
In a report by BBC, the couples' story began about years ago while they were studying at the University of Ibadan.
According to the brothers, a university lecturer introduced them to the Adediran sisters, believing the two sets of twins should meet.
Although the sisters were initially not interested in pursuing a relationship, the four eventually became friends. Over the years, they maintained contact despite living in different countries as they pursued further studies and career opportunities.
As their friendship grew stronger, both families welcomed the relationships. The couples later decided to marry, culminating in a joint wedding celebration attended by relatives and guests from across the region.
The wedding featured coordinated outfits for the brides and grooms, highlighting the unique bond between the two families. Several pairs of twins also attended the event.
The Oguntoye brothers are known locally for their involvement in cultural and tourism activities that promote twin heritage, a significant aspect of Yoruba culture. The Yoruba people, who predominantly live in southwestern Nigeria, are recognized for having one of the highest rates of twin births in the world.
While the twin brothers are fraternal twins, the brides are identical twins. According to the brothers, they easily distinguish their wives despite their striking resemblance.
Following the wedding, the newlyweds are preparing to begin a new chapter in their lives after a relationship that developed over many years and across different countries.(Khea Raym Lubiano, PIT Comm Intern)
