NEWS about the supposed impending stint of Bol Bol, a towering former NBA player, in the upcoming 50th PBA Commissioner’s Cup created quite a stir.

Multiple reports had it that Bol, who last played for the Phoenix Suns and had stints with the Denver Nuggets and Orlando Magic, will be suiting up for the TNT Tropang 5G–a team that is raring to bounce back from two straight championship losses.

To see the 7-foot-3 Sudanese-American playing on Philippine soil would certainly be a huge treat but TNT team manager Jojo Lastimosa was quick to temper expectations.

Lastimosa disclosed that TNT is not engaged in serious talks to bring in Bol in the upcoming Commissioner’s Cup, which will fire off on March 11.

“No update. That didn’t come from the TNT side. I didn’t have any press releases about him that he is coming,” Lastimosa said in an interview with Abante Sports Now.

Bol, who was chosen by the Miami Heat as the 44th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, is actually qualified to play in the Commissioner’s Cup as the tournament requires no height limit for imports.

Lastimosa added that the Tropa are still in search of a reinforcement after their resident import Rondae Hollis-Jefferson suffered an ACL injury while playing for the Meralco Bolts in the East Asia Super League.

TNT has been a perennial title contender and a finalist in four of the last five conferences. In the 49th season, the Tropa won the Commissioner’s Cup and Governors’ Cup but was denied a grandslam when they lost to the San Miguel Beermen in the Philippine Cup Finals.

San Miguel and TNT met again in the recent Philippine Cup Finals with the Beermen scoring a repeat after beating the Tropa in six games in their best-of-seven title showdown.(CCM)
