THE University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers and the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors rebounded from separate losses by dispatching their respective opponents in the men’s basketball tournament of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Season 26 on Sunday, Sept. 13, at the Cebu Coliseum.

UV, which is seeking a fifth-straight title, barged into the win column by nipping the University of the Philippine (UP)-Cebu Fighting Maroons, 94-65.

The Green Lancers started the season with a shock 68-81 loss to USC. UV avoided a second straight setbacl by outscoring UP in the third period, 26-9, surging to a big 71-53 lead after settling for a slim 45-44 cushion at the turn.

Raul Gentallan made nine of his 11 attempts from the field and led UV with a game-high 25 points. Kent Ivo Salarda chipped in 14 points, Albert John Sacayan added 13 markers, and John Paul Bautista had 11 points in the victory.

Raul Gilbuena scored 13 points for UP, which suffered a third defeat in as many outings.

USC, on the other hand, got back on track by posting a 77-63 drubbing of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers.

Jhoernel Tangkay turned in a solid all-around performance, tallying 25 points, six rebounds, six steals, two assists, and two blocks to help the Warriors bounce back from a 63-81 loss to the University of Cebu-Main Webmasters.

Tangkay was backed by James Tawacal, who scattered 12 points. Rey James Enriquez and James Paolo Gica scored 10 each as the Warriors improved to 2-1 (win-loss), getting another win after starting the season with a big win over UV.

Lloyd Amadeo Gutang produced 13 points to lead USPF, which dropped to 1-2.(CCM)
