USC nabs 4th straight win, beats CIT-U

THE University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors are on a serious run.

The Warrrios pocketed their fourth straight victory by beating the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats, 58-54, in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Season 26 collegiate basketball tournament on Monday, Sept. 29, Cebu Coliseum.

Now holding a 5-1 (win-loss) record, the Warriors moved up to solo top spot in the team standings. USC’s strong start included an impressive 81-68 win over the five-time defending champions University of the Visayas Green Lancers.

USC came into the match tied with the Green Lancers and the Benedicto College Cheetahs, who are both 4-1.

CIT-U gave USC a tough time early with a low-scoring first quarter ending at 11-all. The Warriors then started to pull away in the second quarter by staging a 22-9 attack.

USC brought a 47-33 lead into the fourth quarter and quelled CIT-U’s comeback attempt to ice the win.

Ernicke Joshua Herbito emerged as USC’s top scorer with 12 points. Jhoernel Vince Tangkay was extra productive after collecting 11 markers and 12 rebounds while James Paolo Gica also scored 11 points for the streaking Warriors.

Braebon Ali Thompson finished with a game-high 18 points but the Wildcats fell to .500 with their third loss against the same number of wins.(CCM)
