A TROPICAL storm that is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat may enter the Philippine area of responsibility between (PAR) Sunday and Monday.

In its 5 a.m. weather forecast on Thursday, Aug. 20, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Saudel was estimated 2,960 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao as of 4 a.m.

It was moving northwestward at 25 kilometers per hour said weather specialist Leanne Loreto in a report by Inquirer.net.

Loreto said Saudel may develop into a typhoon category while it is in the Pacific Ocean over the weekend.

It will be named “Obet” once it enters the PAR.

“Pagsapit ng Sunday at Monday, maaaring nasa northern part ng Philippine Sea at ito yung hihila sa habagat at nakikita natin between Sunday and Monday, nagsisimula muling magkaroon tayo ng enhancement o palalakasin muli nito yung habagat (It may approach the northern part of the Philippine Sea by Sunday and Monday and it will enhance the habagat by then),” she said.

“Magkakaroon ng panibagong surge by Sunday, start po yan at mag iincrease ang intensity ng habagat Monday onwards (There will be another surge by Sunday and there will be increased intensity of habagat Monday onwards),” she added.

Rainfall is forecast in a huge portion of Luzon and Western Visayas starting Monday onwards. However, she said that this forecast may still change as Saudel’s track is still uncertain as of this moment.

According to Loreto, the public can expect a generally improved weather conditions on Thursday as the Tropical Depression Neneng and the southwest monsoon are forecast to weaken.(MyTVCebu)
