Top PH collegiate, foreign teams battle in Roxas City hoops

ROXAS City is widely known as the "Seafood Capital of the Philippines" because of its rich marine life, vast fishponds, and bountiful catches.

Next week, the capital of the province of Capiz will become the battleground for basketball supremacy as five teams will compete in the highly anticipated Roxas City Invitational Basketball Tournament 2026.

The tournament will be staged from August 21 to 26 at the Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center.

Australian teams Keysborough Universal Athlete Centre and Brien Kerle Basketball Academy will be testing the mettle of some of the country’s top collegiate teams.

Also signing up for the tournament are the De La Salle University Green Archers and the Adamson University Soaring Falcons from the University Athletic Association of the Philippines and the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas from the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Known basketball personalities have been tapped to ensure a smooth conduct of the tournament.

Veteran coach Mike Reyes will serve as league commissioner while PBA chairman Buddy Encarnado was named as league consultant.

Also on board are Miggy Dadivas executive director Miggy and veteran tournament organizer Van Halen Parmis.

The local government unit of Roxas, led by Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, has thrown full support for the tournament.

“Please come and visit Roxas City and be among those witnessing pioneering basketball matches between international and national teams. Be part of history and be at the forefront of our sports revolution in our region,” Dadivas said in a video message.(CCM)
