Red-hot Cebu buries Negros by 47 in MPBL

ELMER Echavez put up big numbers and the streaking Cebu Greats cruised to a dominant 124-77 win over the Negros Hacienderos in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) 2026 Season on Monday, July 6, at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Elmer Echavez scored 19 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, winning the Best Player of the Game award after leading Cebu’s sixth straight win.

Echavez also added one assist and a steal as the Greats improved to 13-3 (win-loss).

The 47-point beatdown pulled Negros down to 2-13.

The Greats raced to a fast 21-9 start then exploded for 32 points in the second quarter to build a 53-29 lead at the half. Cebu further broke the game wide open by surging to a 83-52 lead with only a quarter left to play.

Cebu continued in the onslaught in the final period where they exploded for 41 points.

Six other Cebu players scored in double figures with Ron Dennison and Simon Camacho each collecting 12 points.

CJ Payawal added 11 markers while Alvin Baetiong and Mark Meneses each added 10 points.

Achie Inigo Jr. scored 17 points, Reymar Caduyac added 13 and Michael Alvarez had 12 in Negros’ third straight defeat.
