NBA EAST FINALS: Knicks stage huge fightback, nip Cavs in OT
THE New York Knicks completed one of the NBA’s greatest postseason comebacks when they battled from a 22-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers, 115-104, in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Wednesday (Philippine time), May 20.
Cleveland looked ready to take the series-opener and steal the home court advantage in the best-of-seven series when it took a 93-71 with only 7:52 left in the fourth period.
The unthinkable happened when the Knicks uncorked an 18-1 run and tied the contest at 101-all on a basket by Jalen Brunson with 19 seconds left.
The Cavaliers had the chance to win it by Sam Merill’s three-pointer rimmed out as the regulation buzzer sounded.
New York then started the extension period with nine unanswered points and went on to complete its largest playoff comeback in franchise history.
Brunson went just 1-of-6 from three-point area but still topped the Knicks with 38 points. He also had five rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Mikal Bridges added 18 points, while Karl -Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby and Josh Hart each had 13 markers.
New York will also host Game 2 on Friday, May 22.
Donovan Mitchell led the Cavaliers with 29 points. Evan Mobley and James Harden rallied 15 each for Cleveland, which got outscored, 11-44, after erecting the 22-point cushion.(MyTVCebu)
