NBA DAILY RECAP: New Orleans ends Memphis’ unbeaten start
THE last remaining unbeaten team finally fell after the New Orleans Pelicans took down the Memphis Grizzlies in overtime, 135-134, on Tuesday (Philippine time), Nov. 3.
Zion Williamson scored 25 points to lead New Orleans’ third straight win to improve 3-4 (win-loss). The Pelicans also ended the Grizzlies’ 6-0 start, which matched the best season-opening streak in franchise history.
Memphis came into the match as the only unbeaten squad in the 30-team field.
Ty Jerome erupted for 40 points to lead Memphis but missed a 15-foot jumper in the last 0.7 seconds in overtime that could have given the Grizzlies the win.
Karlo Matkovic added a career-high 25 points for New Orleans while Derik Queen tossed in 20.
Jeremiah Fears scored just 12 points but made two free throws in the final 7.3 seconds that shoved the Pelicans ahead.
Cameron Boozer finished with 18 for Memphis, while Jaylen Wells scored 16 points.
The Pelicans secured the pulsating win despite not having starting guard Dejounte Murray, Yves Missi and reserve Jordan Poole.(CCM)
