Magsayo vows to come back stronger after loss to Cortes

BOHOLANO Mark Magsayo offered no excuses and vowed to come back stronger after losing to American Andres Cortes over the weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“First things first, I want to thank God for allowing me and my opponent to make it out of the ring safely. I have no excuses. It wasn’t my night tonight. Styles make fights, and Andres Cortes fought a great fight,” Magsayo said in a Facebook post.

Cortes outclassed Magsayo, keeping his unbeaten slate intact by pulling off a unanimous decision with all three judges coming up with identical scores of 97-93.

Magsayo admitted struggling to deal with Cortes, who were on the attack mode throughout the fight.

“He was tricky to figure out, and I felt like I was finally getting to him later in the fight, but I ran out of time. Training camp is always difficult, so I’m looking forward to resting and spending time with my family, but I’ll be back soon,” he said.

The 29-year-old Cortes improved to 26W-0L highlighted by 13 knockout wins.

Magsayo, a native of Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Magsayo, saw his five-fight winning streak come to an end as he fell to 29W-3L, 19KOs.

The 31-year-old Magsayo said he will take a brief break before returning to the gym.
