JRU clash with UC in Cebu City Invitationals final

AFTER five days of intense hardcourt action, the Cebu City Collegiate Invitational Basketball Tournament will finally come to a close with two squads fighting for the championship on Tuesday night, August 11, at the Cebu City Sports Institute Gym in Barangay Sawang Calero.

Aside from the title, the Jose Rizal University (JRU) Heavy Bombers and the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters will also fight for the P130,000 top purse.

The title match will tip off at 8 p.m. right after the battle for third place between the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers and the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors at 6 p.m.

JRU is eyeing to complete an unbeaten campaign after it posted a 4-0 (win-loss) record in the elimination round, including an 85-81 victory over UC.

The Heavy Bombers are looking to snatch a second straight title after also ruling the recent Filoil EcoOil Preaseason Cup.

UC and UE both ended the eliminations with identical 2-2 slates but the Webmasters earned the right to face JRU in the championship round via the winner-over-the-other rule as the Webmasters defeated the Red Warriors in the eliminations, 89-85.

UV and the Benedicto College Cheetahs both tallied 1-3 records after the eliminations. It was the Green Lancers who made it to the battle-for-third against the Red Warriors also via the winner-over-the-other rule.(CCM)
