A FOUR-YEAR-OLD boy died when a stone cross from a gravestone fell on him in Rawtenstall Cemetery in Lancashire, England over the weekend.
According to a report from BBC, the child’s death was not caused by any suspicious circumstances.
Police said paramedics arrived at the scene but efforts to save the boy went futile.
"Tragically, and despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the boy sadly died,” a police spokesman said.
The spokesman said that a report will be sent to the coroner soon.
"Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this devastating time," the spokesman said.
Andy MacNae, Labour MP for Rossendale and Darwen, condoled with the victim’s family.
According to the local councillor Liz McInnes, the community was "grieving" over the incident.
"This is a terrible tragedy. My heartfelt and deepest sympathies to the family of this poor boy," she said. (Theressa Faye Lacandazo, USC Comm Intern)
