Ginebra starts PBA Comm’s Cup campaign on high note
RESIDENT import Justin Brownlee delivered a solid all-around game and powered the debuting Barangay Ginebra Kings to a dominant 110-93 win over guest team Macau Black Knights on Friday night, March 20, in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
Brownlee coughed up 31 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks in a stellar performance that marked the start of his 13th conference in the league.
Ginebra played without former MVP Scottie Thompson but that hardly mattered as RJ Abarrientos also gave the Kings a huge spark by tallying 25 points, seven assists and six rebounds.
Three other Kings scored in double figures with Stephen Holt scoring 13 points, Troy Rosario dropping 11 and Norbert Torres throwing in 10.
Diminutive guard Damian Chongqui scattered 28 points and Jenning Leung unloaded 21 but the Black Knights still couldn’t break into the win column after three tries.
Phoenix Shackelford tallied 18 points while Macau import Tony Mitchell managed just 14 markers.
