Gilas Women advance to gold-medal round in Asian Games 3X3 hoops

GILAS Pilipinas Women earned a spot in the gold-medal round after it dominated Thailand, 13-8, in the semifinals of the 20th Asian Games 3×3 competition on Friday, Sept. 25, Kinjo Futo Station Square in Nagoya, Japan.

The Philippines will shoot for the gold medal against host Japan, which secured its own championship slot by beating China, 17-16, in the other semifinal match.

Victoria Pasilang spearheaded Gilas’ big win by tallying five points and seven rebounds. Kacey Dela Rosa and Kennan Ka added four and three points, respectively, while Amyah Espanol contributed one point.

In the men’s competition earlier, Gilas Pilipinas saw its gold-medal hopes quashed after it bowed to South Korea in their Final 4 match, 21-9.

The loss relegated Gilas Men composed of Nic Cabanero, Luis Pablo, Doy Dungo, and Koji Buenaflor to the bronze-medal contest against the loser in the Qatar-Iran semifinal.

South Korea is the runner-up in the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2026, where it also defeated Gilas.

Gilas couldn’t overcome a poor shooting performance, going just 7-of-21 from the field, including a 1-of-8 clip from rainbow area.(CCM)
