THE hammer has been dropped on a temperamental basketball player.

The Games and Amusements Board (GAB) came down hard on John Amores by revoking his professional license for his involvement in a shooting incident in Laguna last September.

GAB, the regulatory body for professional sports, found Amores "guilty of conduct unbecoming of a professional basketball player."

In its decision that was promulgated on December 4, GAB ruled that Amores “is no longer allowed to participate in any professional basketball games sanctioned by the Board.”

The decision was signed by GAB chairman Atty. Francisco J. Rivera and commissioners Manuel Plaza and Angel Bautista.

GAB conducted a motu propio investigation against Amores after he and his brother were charged for attempted homicide.

The charges stemmed from an incident where Amores shot a man following an argument in a basketball game in Laguna.

The Amores brothers are out on bail. Amores was also involved in an ugly incident in 2022 that saw him go on a punching spree in an NCAA game.

Amores is part of the NorthPort Batang Pier in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

After the incident in Laguna, the PBA slapped a one-conference suspension without pay on Amores, but with the recent GAB decision, the volatile player will no longer be able to play in the pro league.(CCM)
