Filipino world boxing champ to watch ‘Fist of Fury 10’
THERE will be an interested spectator when the Fist of Fury 10: Philippines vs. China unfolds on May 9 at the Cebu Coliseum.
Promoter Lorenzo “Chao” Sy announced that International Boxing Federation (IBF) minimumweight champion Pedro Taduran will be in attendance in the card that be headlined by ARQ Boxing Stable’s Ian Abne and China’s Dianxing Zhu.
“Taduran will be watching the fight. Fans can have a closer look at one of only two current Filipino world boxing champions,” Sy said.
The Abne-Zhu duel is an IBF minimumweight world title eliminator. Thus, the winner will earn a shot at Taduran, who recently defended his title.
The 29-year-old Taduran stopped Mexico’s Gustavo Perez Alvares in the seventh round for a smashing US debut last April 4.
It was Taduran’s third successful defense.
A win by Abne will forge an all-Filipino world title match, a gigantic duel that Sy is willing to promote.
“If they agree, I will promote the fight right here in Cebu,” Sy said.
The 26-year-old Abne is ranked No. 4 by the IBF while Zhu is No. 3.
Abne will be putting his clean slate on the line as he will come into the fight with 12 wins, no losses, and two draws, with four knockout victories.
Zhu parades 16W-1L, 14KO record.
The card will also feature 10 undercard fights, including the intriguing duel between the returning John Paul Gabunilas and Ramil Roda.
Meanwhile, Sy announced that tickets are already on sale with prices are pegged at P100 for general admission, P300 for the upper box, P500 for the lower box, and P1,000 for ringside.(CCM)
