Dumanjug, Alegria off to hot starts in Calderon Cup
HOST squad Dumanjug and Alegria posted contrasting wins at the start of the Calderon Cup Inter-Town Under-21 Basketball Tournament on Saturday night, March 21, at the Dumanjug Astrodome.
Right after hosting a grand opening ceremony, Dumanjug buckled down to serious business and manhandled Ronda, 99-77.
Cleveron Jay Fernandez shone bright for the team, going 12-of-21 from the field to finish with 27 points to go with four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Jhun Miguel Telmo gave Ronda more headache by producing 16 points, 16 rebounds, five steals, four assists, and a block. Carl Escuardo also scored in double figures for Dumanjug with 14 points.
Jems Carl Catingan topped Ronda with 17 points while Charlie Bigno tossed in 11.
While Dumanjug came up with an easy win, Alegria had to labor hard before escaping Malabuyoc in a match that featured 12 lead changes and five deadlocks, 91-85.
Vil March Amacna towed Alegria to the win by collecting 30 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and a steal. Kurt Arvie Bitangga and Jesham Saban added 10 points each in the win.
Saban had a splendid all-around game, narrowly missing a quadruple-double as he also had 12 rebounds, 10 assists, seven steals, two blocks and three steals.
Jake Leo Quim led Malabuyoc with 20 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, seven steals, and a block. Joseph Velarde threw in 13 points and 19 rebounds while Chris Donne Gadiana contributed 12 points.(CCM)
