THE Department of Public Works and Highways-Central Visayas (DPWH-7) has endorsed a total of 126 projects for Cebu Province for 2027.

The projects, which are under DPWH-7’s programs, activities, projects (PAPs), amount to P23.2 billion that has been approved by the Cebu Provincial Development Council (PDC), which is chaired by Governor Pamela Baricuatro.

Among the proposed projects are the five dams being eyed to be built in different Metro Cebu areas including in Mananga River in Talisay City; Cotcot River in Liloan town; Butuanon River in Cebu City and Mandaue City; Cansaga River in Consolacion town; and Danao River in Danao City.

According to DPWH-7 Assistant Regional Director Nonato Paylado, each dam has an allocation of P1 billion covering consultancy services for the feasibility studies, detailed engineering design, and actual construction work of the structures.

Paylado, who presented the PAPs of DPWH-7 during the PDC meeting, said these dams are now considered as urgent as they are part of the Metro Cebu Flood Control Master Plan.

The Capitol also said these dams are also part of big-ticket projects of Baricuatro’s administration, which aims to address the flooding in Metro Cebu, especially after typhoon Tino that hit the island last year.

According to the report of the Capitol Information Office, included in the priority projects are the Talisay-Minglanilla-Naga (TaMiNa) Bypass Road and the two flyovers in Talisay City and another five in Consolacion.

The PAPs of DPWH-7 that were approved by PDC will be submitted to the Regional Development Council, which is also chaired by Baricuatro, for review and approval.(MyTVCebu)
