THE Converge FiberXers overcame a slow start and tallied a second straight win via a 116-105 spanking of the Phoenix Fuel Masters in the 49th PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Thursday night, December 19, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Converge started poorly, falling behind big, 2-20, but got their acts together as the match progressed and went on to pocket its fourth victory in six outings.
Jordan Heading and Cheick Diallo led Coverge’s attack by firing 21 points. The FiberXers had five locals scoring in twin digits as aside from Heading, Schonny Winston, Bryan Santos, BJ Andrade, and Alec Stockton were also productive.
Winston and Santos pitched in 16 markers each, Stockton added 14, and Andrade had 11 for Converge, which will next face the Barangay Ginebra Kings on Saturday, December 21.
Phoenix slumped to its fifth loss in six games despite getting 30 points and 18 rebounds from import Donovan Smith.
RJ Jazul added 20 points, Tyler Tio chipped in 13, Ricci Rivero had 11, and Jason Perkins added 12 for Phoenix, which still led by 15 points after the first quarter and six at the turn before losing steam in the final half.
