CLOUDY skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will persist over Cebu through the weekend and early next week.

This comes as a shear line continues to affect the eastern Visayas, alongside the prevailing northeast monsoon, state weather forecasters said.

In its latest bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration–Visayas (Pagasa) said the weather systems are expected to keep much of the Visayas under generally unsettled conditions, with periods of rain and isolated thunderstorms.

For Saturday, Jan. 31, Cebu is forecast to experience cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms. Winds will be moderate from the northeast, with coastal waters remaining moderate. Temperatures are expected to range from 24°C to 29°C.

Similar conditions are forecast for Sunday, February 1, with cloudy skies, intermittent rain showers, and possible thunderstorms. Temperatures will slightly dip, ranging from 24°C to 28°C, while winds and sea conditions remain moderate.

The Pagasa said weather conditions are likely to stay generally the same in the following days. For February 2 and 3, temperatures are forecast at 24°C to 29°C, with moderate northeast winds and moderate coastal conditions.

Across the Visayas, cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected due to the shear line. The eastern section of the Visayas will experience moderate to strong winds from the east to northeast, resulting in moderate to rough seas.

The rest of the Visayas, as well as Palawan including the Kalayaan Islands and Occidental Mindoro, will have light to moderate winds from the northeast to northwest, with slight to moderate sea conditions.

Pagasa advised residents, particularly those in coastal and low-lying areas, to remain alert for possible localized flooding and rough sea conditions, especially for small fishing boats and sea travel over the eastern Visayas.(TGP)
