Cebu gets back on track, trounces Valenzuela in MPBL
THE Cebu Greats quickly got back on track after it nipped the Valenzuela City Darkhorse, 89-70, in the continuing action of the MPBL Season 26 on Thursday night, June 4, at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
Cebu played solid from start to finish, tallying the 19-point win to bounce back from an 80-91 loss to the GenSan Warriors and raise its record to 8-3 (win-loss).
The loss to GenSan snapped Cebu’s five-game winning streak.
Leading the charge for Cebu once more was Mark Meneses, who collected 17 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
Ron Dennison also scored 17 markers while also tossing in two rebounds. Wowie Escosio tallied 14 points, eight rebounds, one assist, and one steal while Cebu’s newest acquisition Al Francis Tamsi contributed nine points built on three triples.
Simon Camacho and Dondon Hontiveros helped Cebu’s cause by combining for 17 points.
Meanwhile, returning guard Jun Manzo, who has seen limited action this season, added seven points.
Valenzuela, which dropped to 5-6, was led by the 21 and 20 points from Angelo Obuyes Jay Collado, respectively.
Cebu took a 40-29 lead at the bend but Valenzuela made a big run and threatened within 58-64 going into the final stanza.
Tamsi played the fireman’s role for Cebu, sinking consecutive three-pointers that stretched the Greats’ lead back to 70-60.
The lead ballooned to as high as 15 points late in the game, giving Cebu the convincing victory.(CCM)
