Cebu City police shift focus on securing inner areas

CEBU City's major thoroughfares have been relatively peaceful in the past few months. But that cannot be said in interior portions where recent troubles have been happening.

With this, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) is adjusting its security deployment to achieve an improved peace and order situation.

Col. George Ylanan, chief of CCPO, said major streets have become more peaceful due to increased police visibility.

This strategy will also now be used in the city's inner areas.

Ylanan said he has instructed station commanders to conduct foot patrols in areas that cannot be accessed by vehicles.

“This is just a little adjustment. Aside from making our major roads peaceful, let's also restore order in inner areas. These are areas that we can only access through foot patrol," said Ylanan.

Ylanan said recent gun-related incidents happened in inner areas of the city.

o Miñulida, Barangay Calamba in which police had a difficulty responding due to a narrow road.

Despite the challenges, the CCPO achieved a high crime solution efficiency rate, Ylanan said.

"When there are incidents, suspects are immediately arrested," Ylanan said.

The strategic installation of security cameras have helped the immediate identification and arrest of crime suspects, Ylanan added.(CDB)
