TWO prized stalwarts of the Cebu City-based Chao Sy Boxing Stable came up with contrasting results in the “Fist of Fury 4” boxing card on Tuesday night, December 17, at the Enan Chiong Activity Center in Naga City, southern Cebu.
John Kevin Jimenez, one of Chao Sy Boxing Stable’s top prospects, faltered mightily in his bid to win a regional belt after he suffered a second-round knockout loss to Joseph Sumabong of the Bohol-based Black Snake Gym.
Sumabong put Jimenez to sleep via a well-timed liver shot, scoring the sensantional win to capture the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) Youth minimumweight title.
Sumabong, a 22-year-old native of Tagbilaran City, Bohol, improved to 7W-1L, 4KOs as he bounced back from a loss to Goki Kobayashi in Osaka, Japan last June.
Dropping to 8W-2L, Jimenez tasted his second straight debacle after bowing to Takeshi Ishii for the OPBF minimumweight title last September.
On the other hand, Jemuel Aranas gave the Chao Sy Boxing Stable some reason to celebrate after he snatched the Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) Interim Flyweight title via a unanimous decision (UD) win over Clyde Azarcon.
Jimenez was actually the lone Chao Sy Boxing Stable stalwart to falter that night as aside from Aranas, his three other stablemates emerged triumphant.
Junibert Bantay pulled off a majority decision win over Joyjoy Formentera, Jeffrey Jimenez defeated Jariel Quisto via UD and Jofferson Trazo nipped Zandy Paderan also via UD in the card promoted by Lorenzo “Chao” Sy Boxing Promotions in cooperation with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Naga City.(CCM)
