ALEX Eala is on a much-needed respite after going through a hectic six-month stretch. It will not be until late this month before Eala returns to action as she bids to compete in another Grand Slam tournament.
The first six months of the year saw Eala compete in clay and grass competitions, including stints at the prestigious French Open and Wimbledon Open.
Up next for the 20-year-old star is hard court events as part of her preparations to qualify for the US Open scheduled on Aug. 24 to Sept. 7.
Currently on a beach vacation based on her latest social media posts, Eala’s next competition will be in the National Bank Open in Canada on July 26 to Aug. 7.
Ranked No. 56 in the world, Eala is part of the main draw entries for the National Bank Open, a Women’s Tennis Association-1000 level competition.
The upcoming tournament will also have Aryna Sabalenka of Russia, Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula of the United States, Iga Swiatek of Poland and Jasmine Paolini of Italy.
Eala has been having a stellar run this year that enabled her to move up to her current WTA ranking–a career-best.
Eala’s last competition was the Lexus Eastbourne Open where she made history after becoming the first Filipino to advance to the semifinal and championship rounds of a WTA-sanctioned tournament.(CCM)
